The School Education Commission has sent a circular to the District Principal Education Officers, stating that government-funded schools should determine their staff allocation for the 2022-23 academic year based on the number of students as of August 1, 2022. The directive further instructs that orders regarding staffing should be issued to the schools by October 15, 2022.
According to the staff determination report, surplus teachers are advised to be assigned to eligible vacancies within the revenue district and to provide alternative employment to government schools that require additional surplus teachers.
Regarding a case filed in the High Court regarding this matter, the government has informed that, in the best interest of the students, recruitment of surplus teachers will not take place during the middle of the academic year. Instead, recruitment will be conducted at the end of the year. Consequently, the recruitment of surplus teachers in government-aided schools has been suspended for the academic year 2022-23. With the examinations now concluded, all district primary education officers are advised to assign surplus teachers to eligible positions in government-aided schools starting from the first day of June in the academic year 2023-24 and submit a report to the commissioner as per the circular.
