Gujarat Titans came up with a dominant victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad by 34 runs. The dominance of Gujarat over other teams continues to exist even after two years. When Gujarat Titans entered after action no one would have believed them as a champion time. They were not even considered among the top teams to make it to the playoffs. There were several factors that led to the glory of Gujarat for the past two seasons.

Captaincy of Hardik Pandya:

The primary reason for the success of Gujarat Titans is the effective captaincy of Hardik Pandya. His work as a captain began from the auction itself and he played a vital role in forming a core team. He was the first pick followed by Rashid Khan whose price is also 15 crores. The third pick was Shubman Gill for 8 crores. All these three picks helped to formulate the team with other slots. Hardik used the experienced veteran, Wriddhiman Saha as an opening partner for Shubman Gill and used him as the Indian wicketkeeper. The unexpected pick was David Miller for a price of 3 crores. He is among the overseas player to score a ton in IPL and was a great finisher for Punjab Kings. He joined hands with Hardik to deal with finishing.

The two other consistent picks were Mohamed Shami and Rahul Tewatia. Both of these players performed for their teams very well in the past and were allowed to carry on the same roles they performed in their previous teams. Shami was an excellent powerplay as well as a death bowler while Tewatia proved his extraordinary finishing skills by firing up five sizes against Sheldon Cottrell. The vacant roles were filled by talented Indians including Sai Sudharshan, Yash Dayal, Mohit Sharma and Vijay Shankar. Unexpectedly the overseas bowlers such as Noor Ahmed, Alzarri Joseph and Josh Little. These players have minimal roles but never fail to play their part for the team.

Why GT is unique?

GT works as a complete unit rather than believing in individual superstars. Though they have superstars, the contribution of individual youngsters has made the difference between wins and losses. Bowling is the biggest strength of GT. Mohit Sharma picked 17 wickets while Shami and Rashid secured 23 wickets to exchange the purple cap within themselves. The batting unit is led by the continuous home contribution of Gill. Yet one or the other would play an anchor role in assisting Gill. GT qualified themselves as the first team to playoffs and guaranteed top two spots. They are the favourites to win a trophy this time. They would at least reach the finals. Their desire for a trophy could be ended by two champion sides. Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians who are playing cricket have ensured their trophy in their seasons. Yet, Gujarat cannot be declined for its mastery over other teams and would develop as a far more successful team in future.
